Red Wine by Clos du Caillou from Chateauneuf-du-Pape, France - Rhone. Dark purple. Explosively perfumed bouquet of raspberry, blackberry, lavender, rose and cocoa powder; smells like a great Burgundy. Deep, supple and sweet, with sexy red and dark berry preserve flavors, silky tannins and suave floral pastille qualities. Seems to gain in sweetness on the long, sappy finish. This is 100% grenache, raised in foudre Les Safres, the local name for the sandy soils with a compact base that dominate this part of the appellation, is the new name for this property's basic Chateauneuf du Pape. -International Wine Cellar 91-94 Cranberries, cherries and a touch of cocoa offer elegant and supple perfumes; the mouth is expressive, with bold, sweet flavors of blackberries, more chocolate and touches of licorice. Here the sandy soils of Les Safres deliver a wine of finesse and velvety tannins. 95% Grenache, with a touch of Mourvedre.
