Oxford Landing 2006 Shiraz Syrah Shiraz Red Wine
Red Wine by Oxford Landing from South Australia, Australia. Fruit parcels were selected in the vineyard on the basis of their flavor and tannin structure. Many of the parcels were sourced from older, lower yielding Shiraz blocks at Oxford Landing and their growers' vineyards in the surrounding area. These parcels were then fermented in a combination of static fermenters and roto-fermenters to ensure maximum extraction of varietal fruit flavors and tannins. The result is a deep purple red wine with touches of ruby. Lifted dark berry and plum fruit aromas dominate the nose with hints of chocolate and anise. The palate is smooth and even with generous fruit flavors of licorice, raspberry and allspice. Soft tannins and berry fruit persistence lead to a long, slightly savory finish.

Geyser Peak 2005 Walking Tree Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Red Wine
Red Wine by Geyser Peak from Sonoma County, California. The deep ruby color of this sumptuous Cabernet gives way to expressive aromas of white pepper, dark berry fruit and cassis. Aging in French oak barrels softens the otherwise firm tannins and introduces hints of toasted vanilla and leather on the palate. Luscious blueberry and blackberry flavors are refined and perfectly balanced by a spiciness that lingers on a long and elegant finish. Geyser Peak Block Collection wines are an expression of the unique growing conditions that exist within a handful of vineyards that consistently produce outstanding wines. Each Block Wine reflects the terroir-driven qualities of a unique site, or block, within the vineyard. The small, beautifully situated Walking Tree Vineyard is a newly developed site on a steep slope directly above the winery estate, planted as part of Winemaker Mick Schroeter's ongoing effort to seek out more hillside Cabernet Sauvignon vines in Alexander Valley. During the clearing of the site in 2001, our vineyard crew was struck by a remarkable tree which, over a period of months, walked from the vineyard's summit down the steep grade, while remaining completely upright. Thus, the vineyard seemed to name itself. The very lean soil and substantial rock in its upper horizon lessen fertility and keep fruit and berry clusters small, while sun exposure and microclimate provide ideal ripening conditions. This ripe, full-bodied wine reflects the unique topography and microclimate of Walking Tree vineyard, with its morning sun influence and mid-valley elevation.

Terra Rosa 2005 Malbec Red Wine
Red Wine by Terra Rosa from Chile, South America. Harvested from ancient vines on the slopes of the Andes Mountains, comes Terra Rosa Malbec: a glass-staining wine with a lovely and exotically perfumed nose. Patrick Campbell, owner/winemaker, heads down to Argentina five times per year to oversee vineyard management and to control harvest and fermentation activities. After the fermentations are finished, the wine is brought up to our California winery (Laurel Glen) by ship in temperature-controlled 24,000 liter stainless steel containers to age in French and European oak barrels for 15 months. Terra Rosa Malbec is a BIG and juicy mouthful of wine, with a lashing of very sexy oak. We didn't set out to make this vintage in such a crowd-pleasing style: the vintage dictated the result, and it is really delicious?.at once rich and powerful and with the delicate, long finish which the best malbecs display! The year was warm, and trouble-free. No rot, no hail, just nice warm days with the typically quite cool evenings. These conditions resulted in full ripening at higher than normal sugars, while still maintaining balance and finesse.

Riedel Vinum Set of two Syrah Rhone Glasses Stemware & Decanters Glassware
Stemware & Decanters Wine Accessory. Vinum was the first machine-made series of glasses in history based exclusively on the characteristics of grape varietals. Vinum has had a permanent impact on the globe's wine culture. These glasses have proved that the pleasures of consuming wine start with the glass. This shape was developed between 1993 and 1995 following tastings in the major Syrah growing regions, when most influential winemakers contributed their views on how the message of their wines should be put across. The wines made from the Australian grape variety Shiraz, give a deep purple, almost inky color. The nose resembles intense, rich blackberry aromas. The flavors on the palate show mouthfilling fruit, massive structure and a long sweet finish. The Syrah glass highlights the tannins, offering a perfect balance with the overwhelmingly concentrated fruit. Recommended for: Amarone, Blaufr?nkisch, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Grenache, Hermitage rouge, Malbec, Mourvedre, Pinotage, Shiraz, Syrah. Each glass stands 9 1/4 high and holds 22 7/8 oz. Boxed set of 2. Joseph Drouhin 2006 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru Chardonnay White Wine
White Wine by Joseph Drouhin from Burgundy, France - regions. Les Clos is one of the seven Grand Crus on the large hill directly overlooking the town of Chablis. It is here that the vine was first planted: its name probably refers to the stone walls that surrounded the vineyard centuries ago. Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos is quite a special wine. With its hue of green and gold, its penetrating aroma and its unique combination of elegance, nerve and flintiness, it is unsurpassed. It also has an excellent potential for ageing, and after 5 or 6 years, the wine develops even greater, more complex flavours. In a good vintage, it will keep easily 15 to 20 years! Good pale yellow. Soil-inflected nose offers flint, smoke, minerals, quinine and dusty stone, plus notes of white pepper and snap pea that reminded me of gruner veltliner. Sappy, classic and backward, with a distinctly tactile quality to the flavors of powdered stone and citrus peel. Much less showy today than the Vaudesir but not at all hard. This really dusts the palate. -International Wine Cellar 91-93

Joseph Drouhin 2005 Rully Blanc Chardonnay White Wine
White Wine by Joseph Drouhin from Burgundy, France - regions. In the southern part of the Cote d'Or, a few miles South of Santenay, lie the vineyards of Rully. It is a lovely area, part of the Region of Mercurey. Both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are grown on the brown calcareous soil, the Chardonnay being found mostly on clay and limestone. As in the rest of Burgundy, the continental climate, with its warm Summer and mild fall, is very favourable to the good maturity of the grapes. Rully is a delicious white Burgundy wine which resembles the whites from the Cote de Beaune: a luminous, golden green colour, a toasty, fruity nose, a refined, elegant body with floral and cinnamon notes. This exquisite wine, which goes so well with delicate fish and most shellfish, is also an excellent value.

Red Wine by Joseph Drouhin from Burgundy, France - regions. The appellation Cote de Beaune Villages can be claimed for all the villages of the Cote de Beaune (all the communal AC), except for Aloxe-Corton, Beaune, Pommard and Volnay. Theoretically, it could be a blend of grapes coming from 16 different villages, but in practice they come from only a few. As everywhere in the Cote d'Or, Pinot Noir is the only grape variety used in this appellation. The characteristic of the wine is that it is the result of a wide range of soil combination bringing great complexity to the ensemble. Cote de Beaune Villages can be enjoyed when young after 2 years or so of age. It has a nice purple hue. The nose offers pretty and delicate flavours of red berries. It is a wonderful example of Burgundy Pinot Noir at a reasonable price.

Adelsheim 2006 Pinot Gris Pinot Gris Grigio White Wine
White Wine by Adelsheim from Willamette Valley, Oregon. Pinot Gris, originating in Burgundy like the other members of the Pinot family, has had a long history all over Europe. In recent times, versions from Alsace and northern Italy have been the best known. Oregon winegrowers introduced Pinot Gris to New World viticulture and in forty years the variety has become the white wine of Oregon. Adelsheim Vineyard can lay claim to being one of the very oldest producers of this variety outside of Europe. With this wine, Adelsheim's 23rd vintage, their experience shows - they've long been acknowledged as producing a reference standard for the Oregon style. Crisp, bright flavors have always been the hallmark of Adelsheim Pinot Gris. In the 2006 vintage, there is beautifully delineated Bosc pear, white peach, and Winesap apple, with a touch of spice. It pulls off the difficult feat of providing a gentle creaminess that lends a mouth-filling texture and long finish, yet still impressing as a wine that's crisp and clean. Try this wine with mildly spicy foods (such as ceviche), not so mildly spicy Thai cuisine, rich fish entrees, and even classic oven-roasted fowl.

d'Arenberg 2005 Dead Arm Shiraz Syrah Shiraz Red Wine
Red Wine by d'Arenberg from McLaren Vale, Australia. Dead Arm is a vine disease caused by the fungus Eutypa Lata that randomly affects vineyards all over the world. Often vines affected are severely pruned or replanted. d'Arenberg believes that this is a natural part of vineyard life. One half, or arm of the vine slowly becomes reduced to dead wood. That side may be lifeless and brittle, but the grapes on the other side display amazing intensity. Vintage 2005 could be summarized as a vintage that ripened without interruptions. The resulting wines are tight with amazing red fruit fragrance and lovely acidity. Crops yields were above average although slightly under the 2004 vintage. Only the best barrels of Shiraz are selected to be bottled as The Dead Arm. The 2005 Dead Arm displays intense cedar, fig, blackberry, blueberry, and pepper aromas. Perfectly structured with a long and rich framework, it will yield this wine great aging power. After time in the bottle, the Dead Arm gains a biscuity, cinnamon, caramel and eucalyptus based bouquet on top of rich blackberry pie smells. Tobacco, mushroom, malt, spice and earth flavors play a complementary part on the long, fleshy finish.

Joel Gott 2006 Blend No. 815 Cabernet Sauvignon Red Wine
Red Wine by Joel Gott from California. This Cabernet Sauvignon is a mix of diverse vineyard sites throughout California; a combination of fruit that produces an elegant, structured and delicious profile. The diversity of Napa Valley's appellations provide the 815 Cabernet with round, blackberry flavors from the valley floor and dark, complex mocha-like flavors from the hillsides. Volcanic soils and the higher elevation in vineyards northeast of Napa Valley help produce a wine with structure and a mineral component. Fruit from the rocky red soils and moderate climate of the Central Valley adds balance, soft tannins, silky texture and bright red fruit flavors to the wine. In contrast to these warmer regions, the cool climate and longer harvest of coastal vineyards allow for more earthiness and acidity resulting in a black tea laced wine with spicy red fruit and peppercorns.

Krug 1995 Vintage Brut Champagne & Sparkling
Vintage by Krug from Champagne, France - regions. Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2006! The 1995 vintage Krug shows today its immense potential, with a smoky, lemony fruit character and hints of brioche, mineral, ripe white fruits and honey. On the palate the wine is majesterial and full, while retaining crisp acidity and vibrant length. A very rich and luxurious Krug. Cellar Notes Vintage Krug is one of the most long-lived wines from the Champagne region, with bottles still lively and fresh after 80 years of aging - although not that many wine lovers have the patience to age their Krug for this amount of time. Like all Champagne, Krug is released when it is ready to be drunk, but Krug 1995 will definitely reward at least 10 - 15 years of cellaring before consumption. Characteristics of the blend As many as 20 different lots of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay from a variety of sources are blended together to form Vintage Krug. The majority of the grapes come from the finest vineyards in Le Mesnil, A?, Trepail, and Ambonnay. This wine is not the most typical of the Krug style, but reflects instead the particularity of the vintage. It is only made in exceptional years, and is only produced when there is a sufficient difference between the vintage wine and the Grande Cuvee.

Silver Oak 2004 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Red Wine

It has a dark ruby color with a deep red edge and displays aromas of fresh blackberries, violets, cola, nutmeg and licorice. Properly cellared, this wine should give drinking pleasure through 2023. Our 2004 Alexander Valley, a blend of wine from several different vineyards, is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. We blended the vineyard lots in early 2005 and transferred the wine to 50% new and 50% once-used American oak barrels for aging. Blending prior to barreling allows us to achieve a balance of the wine's natural elements, such as fruit and tannin, before they are influenced by oak. The wine was then aged in barrel forapproximately 25 months and another 15 months in bottle to harmonize its components before release.

Francis Coppola 2007 Director's Cut Zinfandel Red Wine
Red Wine by Francis Coppola from Sonoma County, California. A blend of 93% Zinfandel and 7% Petite Sirah. To ensure that we get the maximum amount of color and flavor from our Zinfandel grapes, we use a variety of techniques, which include fermentation in open-top fermenters for approximately one week and implementing several punch downs a day. We also blend in small amounts of Petite Sirah for added structure. The wine was aged in French oak barrels for a mere twelve months. That was all that was necessary given the fully mature internal structure of the grapes and the fact we didn't want to mask a single one of this vintage's amazing aromatic compounds. This wine pushes the envelope of sheer decadence with an expressive fragrance of briary berries, strawberry jam, pepper and spice. Deep, rich layers of blueberries, raspberries, dark chocolate and mint build and linger with a vanilla caramel finish.

Bernardus 2005 Rosellas Pinot Noir Red Wine
Red Wine by Bernardus from Central Coast, California. The Santa Lucia Highlands, located on the western bench of the Salinas Valley, has become known as on the premier Pinot Noir appellations of the world. One of the reasons for this lofty reputation is Rosella's Vineyard. Gary Franscioni planted his home ranch, named for his lovely wife, in the heart of the Highlands with an excellent selection Pinot Noir clones. His obsession with meticulous farming together fortunate to have access to three small blocks planted with clone 777, Pommard clone and Pisoni clone Pinot Noir. Each block is evaluated individually for picking according to ripeness levels and flavors. The grapes are hand picked, then separated into small, individual fermentation lots at the winery. We use both native and specially selected yeasts for our fermentations. Once finished and pressed, the wines are kept in separate barrel lots for aging. The final wine was assembled and bottled in February 2007. Our 2005 Rosella's Pinot Noir has a deep ruby-red color. Notes of clove, cinnamon and toasty oak accent aromas of cherries and plums. Dominus 2005 Estate Bordeaux Blends Red Wine
Red Wine by Dominus from Napa Valley, California. The 2005 Dominus (a 7,000-case cuvee of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest equal parts Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot) has come of age, and is one of the strongest efforts they've made. It is possibly the best Dominus since the 2001, and perhaps even the 1997 or 1991. A beautiful, sweet nose of roasted coffee interwoven with kirsch, black currant, cedar, and spice box emerges from this deep ruby/purple-colored wine. The wine has fabulous intensity, a layered, opulent, full-bodied mouthfeel, well-integrated acidity, and a stunningly long finish. The layering of this wine as it builds incrementally on the palate is something to behold. An outstanding, sexy, ageworthy Dominus, it will benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring, and last for at least 25 or 30 years. When I am tasting at Dominus, they always present a wine opened the day before and decanted, and one just opened, and the extended aeration version always seems to be the better example of the wine, so plenty of decanting seems to be in order. -Robert Parker, Wine Advocate Good full red-ruby. Highly complex nose melds black raspberry, minerals, milk chocolate, tobacco, licorice and brown spices. Wonderfully silky, sweet and broad; quite primary for a young Dominus vintage but with subtle earth tones adding nuance. This has plenty of high-quality tannins but the wine's buffering flesh gives it an impression of sweetness. One senses near-perfect ripeness here in the way the wine saturates the palate with flavor. Very suave and fine-grained wine that will almost certainly rank among the best half-dozen vintages of Dominus made to day. Incidentally, long-time winemaker Boris Champy has returned to his native France to make wine, and Ted Mostero, previously in charge of winemaking at Almaviva in Chile, is now in charge here. -International Wine Cellar

Silky, concentrated texture, leaning on intense, powerful and vinous structure, but maintaining refinement. The palate builds up to attain a delicious sensation of well-blended harmony of flavours. A fresh finish with a hint of bitterness making it almost crunchy. All the exceptional characteristics of the 2002 vintage have literally been captured in this 2002 Cristal, which is generous and lush, revealing perfect balance between concentration and finesse, freshness and vinosity, intensity and refinement. Yalumba 2004 Octavius Syrah Shiraz Red Wine
Red Wine by Yalumba from Barossa Valley, Australia. A palate of depth and intensity with dark fruits, violets, and floral flavours help to unveil the richness of this wine. Soft, refined tannins give balance and structure. This wine is made for medium to long term cellaring. The 2004 The Octavius is 100% Shiraz aged for 22 months in American and Hungarian oak, much of it new. Inky black/purple, it coats the glass with legs. It has an alluring perfume of toasty oak, plum, licorice, blueberry, bacon, blackberry, and a hint of chocolate. Voluptuous and youthful, it has intense flavors, plenty of well-concealed structure, and a 60 second finish. Cellar it for 8-10 years and drink it through 2035. 96 Points, Jay Miller, Wine Advocate Quite possibly the best Octavius yet; features explosive Shiraz aromas of raspberries and peppery spice. Is the usual intense barrel treatment more restrained, or the fruit just that much more expressive? The texture is wonderfully lush and creamy, with an expansive mouthfeel and complex flavors of berries and spice that linger elegantly on the finish. Probably best from 2010-2020. 94 Points, Wine Enthusiast November, 2007

Tenuta San Guido 2005 Sassicaia Red Wine
Red Wine by Tenuta San Guido from Tuscany, Italy. In 1944, Mario Incisa acquired a number of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc vine cuttings and planted them on a sloping hillside of the San Guido estate, called Castiglioncello after the 11th-century castle at the vineyard's upper edge. This tiny, 3.75-acre vineyard stood alone until 1965, when a second Cabernet vineyard was planted with cuttings from the Castiglioncello parcel; the gravelly, 30-acre plot would give the wine its name: Sassicaia, the place of many stones. This and a slightly more elevated microclimate of 20 acres, called Aianova, were planted in phases between 1965 and 1985, bringing plantings to the present extent of 90 acres in vines averaging 20 to 25 years of age. Since the late 1960s, Sassicaia has represented a standard of production that is without compromise. The grapes are hand picked, destemmed, crushed and fermentation is set off by natural yeasts in stainless steel tanks. For the first week, pumping over of the must takes place three times daily; during the second week, this is reduced to once daily until the end of the 14-day fermentation period. The wine is pressed from the skins and undergoes full malolactic fermentation. Aging takes place in 225-litre Allier and Tron?ais oak barriques, approximately 30 percent of which are new, for 18 to 22 months depending on vintage. Sassicaia is a unique interpretation of the Cabernet variety, a wine of great breadth, complexity and longevity. The intense blackberry and cassis aromas, offset by notes of smoke and spice, are confirmed on a palate of lush concentration underscored by firm, ripe tannins carrying into a long, elegant finish.

Duckhorn 2005 Estate Grown Cabernet Sauvignon Red Wine
Red Wine by Duckhorn from Napa Valley, California. Our Estate Grown wines are blended using only the finest lots from our Napa Valley Estate Program, which is comprised of seven properties totaling 175 planted vine acres and featuring a diversity of soil types, elevations and microclimates. The final blend for this wine is approachable in its youth, with a soft texture and notable finesse, while still possessing the structure to age for a decade or longer. A classic Cabernet Sauvignon that is blended with Merlot to add complexity and round out the mid-palate, this is a layered, mouth-filling wine with ripe, integrated tannins and a fine-grained finish. Dark aromas of toffee, hickory, bacon, cedar and smoke are contrasted by vibrant elements of red currant and spearmint. On the palate, black currant and blueberry flavors dominate, underscored by notes of earth and oak.

Joseph Drouhin 2006 Montrachet Marquis de Laguiche Chardonnay White Wine
White Wine by Joseph Drouhin from Burgundy, France - regions. This world-famous estate belongs to one of the oldest and most aristocratic French families: the Marquis de Laguiche. Out of the 14 different owners, the Marquis de Laguiche family is proprietaire of the largest portion of Le Montrachet, entirely located in Puligny (according to many authorities, the better side). It has been in their hands since 1363. It is ironical that the hillside of Montrachet, producing Burgundy's most prestigious white wine (and in some say the world's most complex), should look so unprepossessing. The etymology of the place-name is actually instructive: the word rachet refers to a poor type of soil where only scrawny bushes can grow. It is therefore on this poor, hard, infertile soil, which geologists call Bathonian limestone, that the Chardonnay grape develops this unique terroir character. Montrachet is full bodied and luscious, yet elegant. It is only after a few years in bottle that it will develop its famous complexity and richness. Nose and aftertaste are reminiscent of exotic fruit, honey, liquorice, grilled almond and many other flavours which wine lovers over the years have attempted to analyse. But it is perhaps a musical word which can best describe this glorious wine: a symphony of sensations. Very ripe but more classic aromas of pineapple, clove and stone; a bit less exuberant on the nose than the Batard or Corton-Charlemagne. Then large-scaled and fat but with less extravagant sweetness to its sexy flavors of pineapple and rocks. This boasts superb volume and length. -International Wine Cellar 93-95

Antinori 2005 Guado al Tasso Red Wine
Red Wine by Antinori from Tuscany, Italy. 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 5% Syrah This wine takes its name from a curious fact: at Tenuta Guado al Tasso timid badgers are sometimes seen crossing the fords in the streams. The estate of Tenuta Guado al Tasso is about 80 Km. south-west of Florence near the medieval town of Bolgheri, in Maremma. The 900-hectare estate extends down the Tyrrhenian coast to the hills and apart from vineyards, other crops grown here include wheat, corn, sunflowers, olives. The vineyards are situated at altitudes between 45 - 60 metres a.s.l. on rocky, slightly limestone soil. The Guado al Tasso wine was made for the first time in 1990. Intense ruby red colour, very subtle and fragrant aromas with light hints of red berries and stronger sensations of chocolate and liquorice. Close-nit, velvety tannins on the palate with chocolate, blueberries and a hint of vanilla in the aftertaste. A tangy and lingering wine, complex and stylish thanks to the excellent blending of tannins from the wine and the oak.

Antinori 2005 Tignanello Sangiovese Red Wine
Red Wine by Antinori from Tuscany, Italy. 85% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc Tignanello is made exclusively from the vineyard of the same name which is situated on limestone and tufaceous soil on the Tignanello estate covering 47 south-west-facing hectares at altitudes between 350 and 400 metres a.s.l.. This was the first Sangiovese to be aged in barriques, the first modern red wine blended with non-traditional varieties like Cabernet, and on e of the first red wines in Chianti not to use white grapes. Tignanello, originally Chianti Classico Riserva vigneto Tignanello was first made from a single vineyard in the 1970 vintage, when it contained 20% Canaiolo and 5% Trebbiano and Malvasia and was aged in small oak barrels. With the 1971 vintage it became a Tuscan table wine and was named Tignanello. In 1975 the percentage of white grapes was definitively removed. Since 1982 the composition has remained the same. Tignanello is only made in the best vintage years, and therefore was not made in 1972, 1973, 1974, 1976, 1984, 1992 and 2002. Very intense ruby red colour. Nicely expressed varietal aromas with hints of black berry fruit. The palate is weighty, dense and vibrant with complex structure thanks to support of the acidity. Long and lingering with hints of chocolate, coffee and marmalade in the aftertaste. The beautifully handled tannin from the wine and wood blend making Tignanello a very complex, stylish and sophisticated wine.

Beaulieu BV 2003 Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Red Wine
Red Wine by Beaulieu - BV from Napa Valley, California. ABOUT THE WINE Georges de Latour is the classic, original Reserve California wine. Aged 20 months in oak, it reflects many decades' experience with our historic vineyards in Napa. Hand-harvested fruit, whole berries, careful but vigorous extraction during fermentation and gentle handling throughout provide a wine for the ages. This wine is nearly opaque black-ruby color with purple highlights. The aromas show strength of black fruits, licorice, black pepper and minerals, with Rutherford accents of black olive, peppercorn and dark cherry. Full-bodied in texture, this wine has pronounced, dense and concentrated flavors of black currant, anise, sweet vanilla and distinctive minerality. The rich tannins are balanced by medium acidity providing freshness. Deeply full of character, this vintage will require 7 to 9 years aging to reach maturity, yet tastes fine now; it is an excellent example of the vintage. ABOUT THE VINEYARDS Georges de Latour Cabernet Sauvignon showcases our best fruit, primarily derived from the original BV vineyards in Rutherford, now enhanced by a high percentage of unique clones with stronger flavors, like Clone 6, Clone 4 and Clone 337. These vineyards and a few others in Oakville and St. Helena are moderate- to low-yielding sites with gravelly-loam soils and ideal drainage for Cabernet Sauvignon. ABOUT THE VINTAGE The 2003 vintage was a season of contrasts-a cool wet spring, then warm late May, cool June-July and wet August, followed by heat waves in September-October leading to a late harvest finale in November! The even pace of harvest allowed us to pick fruit at optimum maturity. The quality of the late-picked grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon was excellent. The extended summer-like weather in fall was ultimately the key factor in producing high quality fruit this vintage.

Elio Altare 2004 Barolo Arborina Nebbiolo Red Wine
Red Wine by Elio Altare from Piedmont, Italy. The 2004 Barolo Arborina is a surprisingly super-ripe, concentrated and soft-textured wine loaded with sweet fruit. It offers outstanding length and ripe tannins in a very seductive style of Barolo. Three bottles have shown some degree of variation, suggesting the wine is still acquiring its balance after its bottling this summer. Altare says the very low levels of SO2 in the Barolo Arborina probably contribute to the wine's flatness. Excellent with hearty dishes and perfectly suited for drinking with Asian and Middle-Eastern dishes. This wine can age for 20 years. 93 Points An interesting melange of currant, prune, flowers and hints of cardamom on the nose follow through to a full body, where the fruit turns to fresh black currant, coating the firm tannins and giving a long, fresh finish of fruit and mineral. Superfresh and well-structured. Delicious now, but best to wait. Best after 2010. Wine Spectator 91 Points The 2004 Amarone Classico reveals well-articulated aromatics that lead to a poised expression of dark fruit, all supported by silky, refined tannins. This is a medium-bodied style of Amarone with a relatively low level of residual sugar of four grams per liter, which gives the wine its somewhat restrained personality. While I have no doubt this wine can age, I would prefer to enjoy it relatively young. Taittinger 2002 Brut Millesime Champagne & Sparkling
Vintage by Taittinger from Champagne, France - regions. Taittinger Brut Millesime is produced from select Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes grown in vineyards in several of the finest microclimates of the Champagne region. It is produced only in vintage years when the harvest yields fruit of excellence equal to Taittinger's rigorous standards of quality. Champagne Taittinger's extensive holdings, third in importance among those of the great champagne houses, total 752 acres of vineyards in the finest growing areas of Champagne, and allow the house to rely predominantly on its own grapes to maintain the consistent superiority of this cuvee. Insofar as its grapes are of a single vintage, the creation of Taittinger Brut Millesime requires the greatest skills of the blender's art. It frequently entails the selection of a wider range of cuvees than a non-vintage quality which may benefit from the addition of reserve wines of prior vintages. The foundation and consistency of the distinctive Taittinger style relies greatly on the proportion of each grape variety in the blend: Pinot Noir lends the finished blend body, vinosity, structure and power as well as the elegant red berry aromas typical of the variety; Chardonnay contributes elegance, finesse, crispness and delicacy to the blend, as well as a degree of structure and longevity. Bright gold with a fine bead. Smoky, powerfully scented bouquet displays lemon custard, buttery brioche and dried flowers. A spicy, focused midweight, offering juicy pear and mineral flavors and a late note of bitter lemon zest. 91 Points International Wine Cellar It has flavors of dried fruits, apricots and pear and a texture that fills the mouth with a tight, mineral character. John Duval 2005 Eligo Shiraz Syrah Shiraz Red Wine
Red Wine by John Duval from Barossa Valley, Australia. The 2005 Eligo is a vineyard selection; crafted from the finest blocks in the old-vine vineyards John contracts, it is a blend of fruit from both the Barossa and, cooler-profiled, Eden Valley. As per John's style, traditional, low-intervention winemaking is the focus. Submerged-cap fermentation takes place in small, stainless steel fermenters, with a small portion undergoing extended maceration for up to two weeks to maximize color and flavor extraction and aid tannin modification. The wine is then aged in 100% French oak hogsheads, 2/3 new, for a period of 20 months. During his 28 years winemaking with Penfolds, John Duval spent 17 at the helm as Chief Winemaker, custodian of Australia's most famous wine, Grange. It was during this tenure that John's passion for, and intimate knowledge of, the Barossa Valley and its old-vine fruit evolved. Forming relationships with many of the region's pioneering families, John was able to hand-select the region's best fruit for Penfolds Grange, establishing it as the most iconic Australian red wine of its time. Now, almost a half a century after establishing his roots in the Barossa, these long-standing relationships with the region's fourth and fifth generation grape-growing families allow John to source such fruit for his own label, John Duval Wines. These wines convey his unique vision of the Barossa's potential, and doing so have gained international recognition for their finesse and polish. 5 years later, John Duval now unveils the wine that represents the pinnacle of his winemaking skill and unparalleled knowledge of Barossa's terroir: Eligo.

Joseph Drouhin 2006 Meursault Perrieres Chardonnay White Wine
White Wine by Joseph Drouhin from Burgundy, France - regions. Meursault, as a wine village, goes back to Gallo-Roman times. The origin of the name Meursault itself is somewhat controversial. Some people believe it is derived from the Latin Muris Saltus translated as jump of a mouse. More probably, it comes from an old Celtic root, mare, meaning swamp: the lower part of the village is actually on very flat land. During the Middle-Ages, the monks realized that there were wide distinctions between the vineyards. They also started to give them names related to the general aspect of the fields or the kind of vegetation they bore. One such vineyard was planted with juniper trees: it became Genevrieres. Another one was very stony: they called it Perrieres. As a matter of fact, the soil of Perrieres has a very hard and chalky soil. It has a light brown colour with many broken stones that reflects the sun during the day. It is dry, poor, and the roots of the vines have to go deep into the soil to find water. The grape variety is Chardonnay 100%. The bouquet of Meursault Perrieres is not only elegant and refined but also very complex. Among all the Premier Crus of Meursault, it is the most reserved and it always takes a few minutes for the wine to fully develop its aromas and flavours. It is a wine of great distinction. Brisk pineapple and mineral aromas. Juicy and penetrating, with the vineyard's stony, minerally quality standing in for lower-than-average acidity. The pineapple and musky spice flavors are very rich but classically dry. Finishes with a flavor of crushed rocks. -International Wine Cellar 91-93

Chateau Angelus 2005 Saint Emilion Bordeaux Blends Red Wine
Red Wine by Ch?teau Angelus from St-Emilion, France - Bordeaux. This 7,000 case blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc will rival or perhaps eclipse vintages such as 2000, 1998, 1990, and 1989. Its dense purple color is followed by an extraordinary perfume of charcoal, espresso roast, blackberries, blueberries, and a hint of wood. In spite of its thick texture, terrific acidity, high tannins, and enormous intensity as well as richness, it is surprisingly approachable, but given how slowly the 1989 and 1990 have aged, I would recommend cellaring it for 8-10 years. It should keep for three decades. A brilliant wine! -Robert Parker, Wine Advocate

Joseph Phelps 2005 Insignia Cabernet Sauvignon Red Wine
Red Wine by Joseph Phelps from Napa Valley, California. The initial blend assembled in April of '06 was quite reticent. Not until early ?07 did the wine blossom in barrel showing amazing depth, texture and vibrant fruit qualities. Deeply colored, concentrated and layered, with floral, anise, black cherry and graphite aromas, this wine is classically structured with excellent acidity, well-balanced tannins and a mouth-staining, persistent finish. (93-96 points) The 2005 Insignia is a blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, and 1% Malbec. Elegant and restrained (which is very much in keeping with the style of this vintage), the wine is also rich, dense, pure, with chocolatey cassis notes intermixed with hints of subtle wood, roasted herbs, and spice. It is ripe, rich, full-bodied, but in need of 4-5 years of bottle age. It should last for 25-30 years. It is far more reticent than the more flamboyant 2004. - Wine Advocate

Salon 1997 Blanc de Blancs Le Mesnil sur Oger Champagne & Sparkling
Vintage by Salon from Champagne, France - regions. The wine is pearlescent - a pale, lustrous gold with a fine, lively mousse. The nose is complex yet ethereal. Wonderfully refined, it is intriguing and enticing, its minerality complemented by hints of white flowers, acacia and hawthorn. A salty note enhances aromas of bread crust, brioche and the merest hint of green apple and hazelnut. The palate is quintessentially pure, the very epitome of balance and restraint. Exuberant on entry, the mousse becomes more of a caress, while bubbles dance playfully on the palate. Elegance, finesse, bright vitality, depth and power allied with a lightness of touch-it is difficult to encapsulate so many complementary and contradictory elements coming together in harmony. Refined, feminine and seductive, voluptuous yet restrained, and superbly balanced, this vintage compares stylistically to the great 1988. According to Didier Depond, Director of the House of Champagne Salon, this singular wine should be served in a tulip-shaped glass rather than a narrow champagne flute. He says, We have found that Salon can be drunk in the same way as a great wine. Due to the richness and complexity of its aromas and its exceptional, lingering finish, this style of glass allows the wine to breathe more freely. 93 points Subtle ginger, floral and citrus aromas build to flavors of lemon pie, honey and hazelnut. Elegant and refined, with a firm underlying structure and a long aftertaste. Wine Spectator

A recent bottle of the 1982 is a testament to the virtues of this great site as interpreted by Bruno Giacosa. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2024. Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou 2005 Saint Julien Bordeaux Blends Red Wine

It may be the finest wine produced at this estate since the 1982 and 1961 Ducrus. Chateau Cos d'Estournel 2005 Saint Estephe Bordeaux Blends Red Wine
Red Wine by Ch?teau Cos d'Estournel from St. Estephe, France - Bordeaux. #28 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2008 Black in color, with aromas of orange peel, new leather, currant, berry and Christmas pudding. Full-bodied, with layers of velvety tannins and a long, long finish of fruit and spices. The cashmere texture is all there. 2003 plus 2000 equals 2005. 98 Points -Wine Spectator While I am not convinced the 2005 Cos d'Estournel will eclipse the compelling 2003 Cos, it is unquestionably another superb classic from proprietor Michel Reybier and his brilliant winemaker, Jean-Guillaume Prats. Made from an unusually high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon (78%) and the balance mostly Merlot with a tiny dollop of Cabernet Franc, this superb effort requires plenty of time in the bottle. It boasts an inky/purple color as well as a glorious perfume of licorice, Asian spices, creme de cassis, blackberries, and toasty oak. This full-bodied St.-Estephe is exceptionally powerful, pure, and dense with a layered mid-palate that builds like a skyscraper. While there are massive tannins, they are remarkably velvety and well-integrated in this big, backstrapping effort that should enjoy an unusually long life. Chateau Montelena 2004 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Red Wine
Red Wine by Chateau Montelena from Napa Valley, California. The Montelena earthy-berry aroma is very concentrated, showing lovely, classic Cabernet, warm earth and sun baked cassis with licorice and spice. On the palate there is integration of strong, deep, concentrated fruit in a perfect balance. Super fine tannin grips the palate, with ripe, round flavors that dance right on the seam between classic Bordeaux and California styles. The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, all from their old vineyards in Calistoga. This is a dense, ruby/purple-tinged wine with full body, and despite the softness of the general vintage, Montelena has plenty of structure. Like nearly every vintage of their top Cabernet Sauvignon, it will last for 25 or more years. The wine has sweet tannin in a broad, flavorful, concentrated style with plenty of black currant, licorice, and spice. The wine is beautifully textured, slightly more forward than most Montelena Cabernets tend to be. It is another beauty from probably the most consistent winery for Cabernet Sauvignon over the last three decades. -Robert Parker, Wine Advocate 94+

Louis Jadot 2006 Le Musigny Pinot Noir Red Wine
Red Wine by Louis Jadot from Burgundy, France - regions. The commune of Chambolle and its village are transversed by the Little River Grone, ordinarily a peaceful body of water. But for centuries, occasional downpours have transformed it into a savage, torrential flood submerging streets and cellars. The persistence of this behavior is evidenced by the Latin name Campus Ebulliens, or boiling field, from which by 1110 Cambola, and later Chambolle, evolved. It was only planted in vines, during the 1200s, by the monks of Vougeot. Le Musigny is the oldest vineyard of Chambolle, originally a property of the Musigne family, who, during the Middle Ages, were heavily involved with the government of The Duchy of Burgundy. Le Musigny is an elongated climat at the southern end of Chambolle covering 26 acres in four parcels: two in La Combe d'Orveau, totalling 1.5 acres; 10.5 in Les Petits Musigny; and 14.5, in Le Musigny proper. The unusual calcareous soils of Chambolle are especially fine in the Musigny vineyard, and produce a magnificent wine of greater elegance than any of the Cote d'Or. Domaine Louis Jadot is proprietor of .4 acres in Le Musigny acquired in 1985 through the purchase of Domaine Clair Dau. This superb parcel produces a quintessential Musigny, with the slightly floral, violet-scented bouquet and raspberry flavors characteristic of the wine. Ethereally delicate and feminine, yet with a firm structure, it shows a silky texture and elegant fruit complexity of exceptional finesse. Deep ruby-red. Wonderfully soil-driven nose offers sappy black cherry liqueur, minerals, licorice and pungent earth tones; far more expressive today than the Bonnes-Mares. An outstanding, pure expression of soil, with remarkable energy to its flavors of sappy black fruits, licorice, stone, spices and pepper. Finishes with terrific vibrancy and lift. -International Wine Cellar 92-96

Kaesler 2006 Old Bastard Shiraz Syrah Shiraz Red Wine
Red Wine by Kaesler from Barossa Valley, Australia. Color of arterial blood. Once opened, and when it's young, exhibits soy sauce, vegemite, mandarin rind and flowers. After a few hours with air, and more suggestive of its future, it leans slowly towards dark chocolate embedded with black ripe yet still sour cherries. After 5 hours or more, small berried fruit, black and red start streaming though, vanilla lift adds a nice topping and ethereal afterglow. Intensely ferrous and austere upon opening but this trait will become complex over time. The savory qualities, pronounced by this vineyard persist until about 4 hours into the bottle. The oak is is well wound into the fruit at this stage but the competition is intense. We know however the fruit will prevail in the 10th or 11th round. By TKO. Above all that, the texture is familiar OB, slippery, with tannin and acid hard to separate. Not bad for a hands off effort by a bunch of Bogans.

Louis Jadot 2006 Grands Echezeaux Pinot Noir Red Wine
Red Wine by Louis Jadot from Burgundy, France - regions. Between Vosne-Romanee and Flagey-Echezeaux there are seven grands crus, arguably the greatest of the Cote d'Or, whose names are synonymous with rarity and costliness. La Tache, a vineyard of 14.98 acres, Romanee- Conti, with 4.46 acres, and La Romanee, a tiny parcel of 2.09 acres, all lie in Vosne-Romanee and are all solely-owned vineyards of single proprietors who have long produced and commercialized the totality of their production. Le Richebourg, covering 20 acres, and Romanee-Saint-Vivant, with 23 are in Vosne-Romanee, and are separated from the Flagey-Echeaux border by the premier cru of Les Suchots. Grands-Echezeaux and Echezeaux are in Flagey-Echezeaux and cover, respectively, 22.5 and 93 acres. While Grands-Echezeaux is a single climat, Echezeaux covers eleven vineyard sites clustered around Grands- Echezeaux. Grands-Echezeaux may take the Echezeaux appellation, but not vice-versa. Grands- Echezeaux borders Clos Vougeot along its west, and despite the proximity of vineyards known for the delicacy of their wines, it is typically a big, powerful wine. Maison Louis Jadot vinified the production of vineyards in the commune to yield a wine of considerable dimension, with intense berry flavors and an aromatic bouquet brought together in a full, complex structure of great balance and completeness. Medium red. Knockout nose is sauvage and noble at the same time, combining wild red berries, dried flowers and minerals. Suave on entry, then perfumed and sharply delineated in the middle palate, with enticing mineral and floral notes giving the berry flavors superb lift. Finishes very long and aromatic, with terrific spicy length. Very cerebral wine, as good a sample of a wine not vinified by Lardiere as I tasted here in November. Lardiere told me Jadot began buying from a second supplier of Grands-Echezeaux in 2003, and this estate uses Jadot's barrels. (Readers may recall that the 2003 Grands-Echezeaux wa

Joseph Drouhin 2005 Clos des Mouches Premier Cru Blanc Chardonnay White Wine
White Wine by Joseph Drouhin from Burgundy, France - regions. Admirably situated on a hill between Pommard and Beaune, with a direct southern exposure, Clos des Mouches is one of the most famous Premier Cru vineyards of Beaune. The name Clos des Mouches probably goes back to the beginning of the Middle-Ages (around 1550) because of its slopes facing South/South-East: a very favourable place for keeping bees. The word Mouches (Flies) was actually the local name for bees. As bee keepers started to set up their bee-hives, the area became known as Clos des Mouches (i.e. the Enclosure of the Honey Bees). After the destruction of the Burgundy vineyards due to the phylloxera epidemic of 1875-1880, Clos des Mouches was entirely replanted with Pinot Noir. Having fortunately come across some ancient documents which revealed that the vineyard had previously produced an excellent white wine, Maurice Drouhin, in 1921, began replanting with some Chardonnay. The result was of exceptional quality. To-day, there is an almost equal balance between white and red. Some of the stocks he planted are still alive to-day. They constitute a precious genetic pool, especially when grafted onto superior root-stocks. They are not vigorous and produce tiny berries with a thick skin. The density of plantation is high and the yield is low. Soil doesn't change much in the Clos. Lighter and stony at the top, coloured with broken stones at the bottom, with a good variety of chalky marls bringing complexity. Once harvested, the white grapes are crushed in a pneumatic press. The juice obtained is then fermented in oak barrels for a year during which the malolactic fermentation will take place. Clos des Mouches white is a generous wine combining the body of Corton Charlemagne and the elegance of Montrachet. Its hue is bright, limpid, and pale golden. It has an elegantly perfumed nose of smoky citrus with tinges of vanilla. On the palate, the aromas are reminiscent of honey, almond, lemon and,

Chateau Pavie 2005 Saint Emilion Bordeaux Blends Red Wine
Red Wine by Ch?teau Pavie from St-Emilion, France - Bordeaux. 100 Points I love the purity of fruit in this wine, with perfectly ripe blackberry, blueberry and raspberry on the nose. Complex and full-bodied, with hints of new oak and wonderfully polished tannins that caress the palate. Long, long finish. This is not the blockbuster it was from barrel, but rather a complete, balanced and gorgeous red. Best after 2015. 7,100 cases made. - JS Wine Spectator 98 Points Now that the 2005 Pavie is in the bottle, I would place it, qualitatively, a notch below the prodigious 2000, and a few notches above the blockbuster 2003. There are 7,000 cases of this 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon blend. Disregarding the blatant jealousy of his success as well as his outsider status, proprietor Gerard Perse has pushed the envelope of quality, fashioning first-growth quality wines from one of Bordeaux's finest terroirs. In St. Emilion, only Ausone can be considered to have greater potential in terms of micro-climate and terroir. Pavie's 2005 exhibits a thick-looking purple color to the rim as well as an exquisite perfume of blueberry and blackberry liqueur, unsmoked cigar tobacco, crushed rocks, damp earth, and hints of truffles and incense. The vineyard's limestone soils have provided massive concentration, a laser-like precision, fresh, zesty acidity, and massive tannin. Despite the wine's enormous concentration and intensity, there is a lightness to its style. As Perse has made clear, he is trying to produce modern day versions of such great vintages as 1921, 1929, 1945, and 1947, wines that lasted 50 or more years. Bouchard Pere & Fils 2006 Vosne Romanee Les Malconsorts Pinot Noir Red Wine
Red Wine by Bouchard Pere & Fils from Burgundy, France - regions. 90-93 Wine Spectator 92 Burghound Good dark red. Hints of smoke and licorice on the rather laid-back but wild nose. Round, rich and deep, showing more weight but less early sex appeal than the Suchots. Best today on the lush, expanding back end, which features roast coffee and underbrush nuances and suggestions of very ripe fruit. This is still a baby. Prost notes that the berries here are always very ripe, but that the Suchots fruit comes in with firmer skins and normally makes a fresher style of wine. Krug Grande Cuvee Champagne & Sparkling
Non-Vintage by Krug from Champagne, France - regions. Krug Grande Cuvee is as a symphony, a composition where the instruments all play together, complementing each other in total harmony. -Henri Krug. The flagship of the house, Grande Cuvee is imposing in character from the first moment in the glass. The birth of Krug Grande Cuvee, through its first fermentation exclusively in small oak casks, ensures the unique personality and dimension that is the Krug Style. The composition of the cuvee is a stunning mosaic of flavors where the three champagne grapes, 20-25 growths and 6-10 different years, combine to give Krug Grande Cuvee its complexity, elegance and consistency year after year, blend after blend. To maintain this consistency, Krug reserves a large selection of unblended still wines from previous vintages blending them with the youngest crop to create a fully balanced taste. These reserve wines may represent between a third and a half of the cuvee. The bouquet is wonderfully creamy, leading to magical combination of weight and balance on the palate. The long, lingering finish is both nutty and toasty, ending with a final flourish of freshness, leaving one longing for more.

De Martino 2007 Organic Sauvignon Blanc White Wine
White Wine by De Martino from Chile, South America. The DeMartino family has been producing wine in Chile's famous Maipo Valley for almost 70 years. These wines are concentrated yet elegant, each with a distinctive personality. DeMartino first began producing organic wines in 1991. From the pruning to the harvest, De Martino's organic wines are produced under the auspices of the Organic Management Program, certified by BCS Oko-Garantie. The organic grapes, which are grown in their own Isla de Maipo estate on the De Martino property, have permanent green cover crops between rows to facilitate biodiversity in the vineyard. The hand-picked grapes are fermented in their own yeasts and require a minimum of sulfur. This 100% Sauvignon Blanc has a bright yellow color with an expressive aroma of grass, citrus and white peach. On the palate it is crisp and well-balanced with an abundance of fruit, coupled with a vibrant acidity and luxuriously long finish. Ideal with smoked cheeses, fish, oysters and sauteed vegetables.

Faiveley 2004 Montagny, Domaine de la Croix Jacquelet Chardonnay White Wine
White Wine by Faiveley from Burgundy, France - regions. Previously known as Les Joncs prior to the 2004 vintage. This 2004 Montagny has a very clear pale yellow color. It's rather expressive with a pretty fresh-flower nose. Freshness and vivacity are fitting terms for this very promising wine followed by intense and lingering finish. 100% Chardonnay. The village of Montagny is the most southerly on the Cote Chalonnaise, on the Maconnais border. The size of the appellation is around 495 acres for Montagny village and Premier Cru. The tiny, artisan village of Montagny-les-Buxy seems to be one of the sleepiest of Burgundy, according to Robert M. Parker, Jr., but the best wines have a delicious buttery, nutty, apple-like Chardonnay fruitiness, crisp acidity...

Source Napa 2005 Gamble Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc White Wine
White Wine by Source Napa from Napa Valley, California. A fantastic Sauvignon Blanc from Napa Valley! The 2005 vintage exhibits rich aromas of orange, lime and grapefruit marmalade, elderflower, honeycomb, jasmine and fig. It is a finely balanced wine, with dense layers of flavor and texture cut with a firm line of citrus fruit acidity. Delicious flavors of floral honey, apricot and grapefruit zing through the palate. Typical of the Gamble Vineyards wine; clean, crisp with persistent finish. The 16-acre Gamble Vineyard is located in Yountville, north of Carneros at the southern end of the Napa Valley. This superb rocky site is warm enough to develop Sauvignon Blanc's tropical fruit flavors, yet cool enough to retain its natural fruit balance and crispness. Half of Gamble Vineyard is planted to the Sauvignon Musque clone, a third generation of the original bud wood brought from the Loire Valley in the 1950s - the other half to the Preston Clone, descended from the Graves region of Bordeaux.

Penfolds 2005 Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvignon Red Wine
Red Wine by Penfolds from Australia. Color: Impenetrable black with a concession of purple at the rim. Nose: Saturated dark fruit flavors of blackberry/ mulberry fuse with notes of dark chocolate, Ribena and licorice. The chocolate spike unfolds with air, revealing cocoa bean and cherry liqueur components. The overt, aromatic contribution from the legendary, ancient Kalimna Block 42 vineyard offers soul, purity and character. The 100% new oak contribution is of academic interest only - it is completely absorbed. Palate: The palate displays an oscillation and juxtaposition between a solid, assertive and muscular first impression, and later, an opulent, saturated and succulent demeanour. Blackberry and loganberry fruit flavors glide across a supportive continuum of tannin and oak to reveal a profound synergy of Blackforest cake and bread & butter pudding flavors. What's promised on the nose is revealed on the palate - perceptions delivered. Food pairings: Ideal with rare roast lamb cutlets.

Iron Horse 2002 Russian Cuvee Champagne & Sparkling
Vintage by Iron Horse from Russian River, California. Russian Cuvee commemorates the style of Sparkling that Iron Horse made for the historic Reagan-Gorbachev Summit Meetings, which ended the Cold War. It is the sweetest of their cuvees - right on the edge of Brut level dry and hits a perfect balance point. The higher dosage doesn't come across as sweet, per se, but makes the wine richer and more floral. Russian Cuvee was originally designed as a toasting wine. It is exceptional with foie gras (for the same reason Sauterne goes with foie gras) as well as the sweet and sour tastes of many Asian dishes. It is surprising with vine-ripened tomatoes and when October rolls around, a fabulous cocktail is Russian Cuvee with a handful of pomegranate seeds bobbing in the glass. For dessert, almond cake with strawberries and whipped cream, or anything to do with ginger.

Domaine Terlato & Chapoutier 2005 lieu dit Malakoff Shiraz Syrah Shiraz Red Wine
Red Wine by Domaine Terlato & Chapoutier from Victoria, Australia. This majestic Shiraz comes from the spectacular Malakoff estate, low-yielding, high-concentration vineyard site in Central Victoria. Its intense black fruit aromas and firm structure are classic features of the variety as interpreted by two renowned wine families; Rhone master Michel Chapoutier, together with wine authority and Napa Valley vintner Anthony Terlato. The Malakoff vineyard, in central western Victoria, is situated on an eastern facing slope of Australia's Pyrenees Mountains. The vineyard receives optimum sun exposure and is located in the center of the prized Shiraz growing region. The soil profile is remarkably similar to that of France's northern Rhone Valley and the area's climate is ideal for growing superior quality Shiraz. Color: Intense and profound red. Aroma: Complex with black fruit aroma (blackcurrant and blueberries); some chocolate and toasty notes. Taste: Explosive fruit and concentrated flavor. Very round structure balances the tight, but jammy tannins. A blockbuster to drink during its first 7-10 years.

Bonny Doon 2003 Le Cigare Volant Rhone Blends Red Wine
Red Wine by Bonny Doon from Central Coast, California. A little bit of a stylistic departure for Bonny Doon. Since I have been hanging out with Patrick Ducournau, I have learned the mantra: I will fear no tannin. Cigare has always been fruit-driven (in the Australian parlance) and usually has had the soft, plush texture of the upholstery one finds in a vintage Citro?n. We have upped the ante and given the wine a little more grip, more conjones, if you will. I think that in doing so, we have enchanced this Cigares ability to age. Varietal composition: 34% Grenache, 33% Syrah, 27% Mourvedre, 2% Viognier, 2% Cinsault and 2% Carignane.

Opaque purple, it presents aromas of smoke, cedar, tar, grilled bacon, and blueberry. Full-bodied, the wine delivers gobs of youthful ripe fruit flavors modulated by excellent balance and enough structure to carry this wine for 5-7 years in the cellar. Drink it through 2025 accompanied by osso bucco or a dry-aged prime rib-eye. Au Bon Climat 2006 Santa Barbara Chardonnay White Wine
White Wine by Au Bon Climat from Central Coast, California. The 2006, like the '05, is a truly alternative style of California white wine. The wine has not been compromised in quality at any step in its production. Low yielding, high quality vineyards (Bien Nacido, Rancho Vinedo, and Los Alamos) are hand-pruned, leaf thinned by hand, sustainably farmed, and hand picked. The grapes are whole cluster pressed, unsettled (a Burgundian tradition, like the weather), straight to Francois Freres small barrel for primary fermentation and malo-lactic, topped once a week by hand, sur lie, and bottled after a careful fining and no filtration. All of the French wood is neutral. This wine is fruit driven, lees enhanced, texturally sophisticated, balanced, bright, complex, and concentrated from yields under 3 ton per acre. Remember when Chardonnay had stone fruit (not tropical), firm acidity, brightness, earthiness, minerality, and no vestige of heaviness? Au Bon Climat certainly does! Here is your alternative. Chardonnay is not an aromatic variety, it needs wood and lees, but can be vinified in an elegant, fresh, and food friendly fashion.

Chambers Rosewood NV Muscadelle (half bottle) Dessert Wine
Dessert, Fortified & Fruit Wine by Chambers Rosewood from Victoria, Australia. In the warm fall climate the grapes ripen and shrivel on the vines producing natural sugar levels in the range of 16.7 - 20 degrees Baume. The raisined grapes are then picked, crushed and partially fermented before being fortified and then subjected to a wood aging program loosely resembling a solera system that lasts (in some cases) for over 100 years. A blend of six to ten-year-old Muscadelle. This is a rich, viscous wine displaying characters of honeyed spice, marmalade and tealeaf. Although luscious, the palate is not cloying. It finishes with a tight acidity and lingering nuttiness. While these wines are seen as after dinner drinks, try serving them as an aperitif. And a bottle, once opened, will keep for some months without deteriorating, providing it is recorked after each serving.

two Brothers 2005 Big Tattoo Syrah Syrah Shiraz Red Wine
Red Wine by 2 Brothers from Chile, South America. This wine comes from two brothers, Alex, a wine importer, and Erik, a tattoo artist, who wanted to pay homage, in a non-serious way, to their late mother who suffered from cancer. They decided to label and bottle their own wine and donate the proceeds to a good cause. With their combined talents and effort, they created Big Tattoo Red. For every bottle sold, 50 cents was originally donated to Capital Hospice in Arlington, Virginia, and a breast cancer research foundation in the name of Liliana S. Bartholomaus. Donations have since expanded to include 501(c)3 organizations benefiting the communities in which the wine is sold. Introduced after the success of Big Tattoo Red, Big Tattoo Syrah has helped increase donations from Big Tattoo Wines to over $940,000. The vineyards are located in Colchagua, in the Central Valley. Vineyard management is ecologically friendly. The vines are vertically-trellised and yields are controlled in order to maximize the quality of hand-picked fruit. Rich, with lots of dark currant and boysenberry fruit and muscular tannins. Layers of bittersweet cocoa, coffee and game are here too, and they all run through the lengthy, muscular finish.

Cardinale 2004 Red Meritage Bordeaux Blends Red Wine
Red Wine by Cardinale from Napa Valley, California. Cardinale is more than one wine - it is several wines from disparate mountain and benchland vineyards along the Mayacamas and Vaca ranges that surround Napa Valley. Every bottle reveals the artistic sensibility of the winemaker, each vineyard lot fused into a seamless blend in which one can sense the constituent parts, but still taste them as one wine. Cardinale's philosophy is guided by the pursuit of grape selectivity in the vineyard, gentle handling and the ability to accommodate the different winemaking needs of each vintage. When we approach the Cardinale blend, the key to success is finding the balance between the mountainsides and the valley floor. Both our Oakville vineyard and the Stags Leap portion of the blend represented higher percentages in the 2004 final blend because it was clear that the mountain wines needed the middle body that these valley floor vineyards provide. The sweetness of the Stags Leap and the weight of Oakville fit in gracefully with the strength, minerality and black fruit characters from Veeder and Howell, and together they all play off of one another. - Christopher Carpenter, Cardinale Winemaker Consistently one of the best proprietary blends of northern California, Cardinale's 2004 is 100% Napa fruit (from Mt. Veeder, Howell Mountain, Stags Leap District, and Oakville). This blend of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Merlot boasts a dense purple color in addition to sweet aromas of kirsch, black currants, licorice, olives, and spice box. Fabulous texture, full-bodied power, pure fruit, and an opulent, voluptuous finish nearly conceal significant tannin. This beauty should drink well young, yet age easily for 15 or more years. Vega Sicilia 1996 Unico Gran Reserva Tinto Tempranillo Red Wine
Red Wine by Vega Sicilia from Rioja, Spain. The 1996 Unico seems more developed aromatically than the 1995 with elements of coffee and mocha but not quite the richness of fruit of the 1995. It is more supple on the palate but with less depth. It can be enjoyed now and over the next 20 years. -Wine Advocate Deep ruby. Complex, heady bouquet of kirsch, candied plum, cured tobacco, licorice, dried rose and cedar. Pungent herbal notes build with aeration and repeat on the palate, adding complexity to the deep, ripe cherry and dark berry liqueur flavors. Remarkably elegant wine with precise cherry/berry flavors and a slow-mounting mocha quality on the long, sappy finish. There's a very impressive interplay of fruit and tannins here. -International Wine Cellar

Saint Supery 2003 Elu Red Meritage Bordeaux Blends Red Wine
Red Wine by St. Supery from Napa Valley, California. Blend: 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc, 1% Malbec The fruit for this red blend was harvested during the cool hours of early morning to maximize fresh flavors. Crush occurred in St. Supery's cellar prior to fermentation and maceration on the skins, after which the wines were drained and pressed to barrels for maturation. After a year in predominantly French oak, a preliminary blend was created and that blended wine put back into barrel in order to begin the process of marrying the flavors of the component varietals. Another twelve months later, the wines went through final evaluation to complete the blend. From the out start the 2003 El? is an amazing wine, there is great depth of both aroma and flavor. The wine begins with hints of cocoa, blackberries and toasted oak. Upon further investigation, one picks up kirsch and black cherries. Elegant, supple and gracefully balanced, and finishing with a lively burst of ripe fruit and supple tannins. Drink now through 2013.

Dow's 2000 Late Bottled Vintage Port Dessert Wine
Dessert, Fortified & Fruit Wine by Dow's from Portugal. Dow's 2000 Late Bottled Vintage Port is a fine value and marries delicious red fruit flavors with dark cocoa power and a slightly spicy, vibrant finish. It is made from a single year's harvest (in this case, 2000) and then aged for four years in oak casks. (The term late bottled vintage is because Vintage Port is aged for two years and then bottled with the intention of further bottle aging.) The extra aging helps it develop more quickly. Serving and pairing suggestions Given its extra aging, the Dow's LBV is bottled ready to drink. It has a t-cap closure, which means that you don't need a corkscrew to open it and that it will stay fresh for up to two months if stored in a cool, dark place or refrigerator. Serve it in a glass with at least a six ounce capacity so that you may appreciate the wine's aromas. It is delicious with dark chocolate or blue cheeses such as Point Reyes Original Blue.
